Print dialog box does not list any...due to corrupt or missing PRTUPD.INF file.
Cause:
The PRTUPD.INF file is corrupt or missing.
Solution:
Click the 'Start' button, select 'Programs', and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. Type <drive>:\WIN95\PRECOPY2.CAB PRTUPD.INF /L <drive>:\WINDOWS\INF and press ENTER. Double-click the 'MS-DOS' icon in the top-left corner of the 'MS-DOS Prompt' window.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Find' and select 'Files or Folders'. (The 'Find All Files' dialog box appears.)
3) Type PRTUPD.INF in the 'Named' drop-down list box and click 'Find Now'. (If the file exists, it appears highlighted in the 'Find: All Files' dialog box.)
4) Select the PRTUPD.INF file, select the 'File' menu, and select 'Delete'. (The file is deleted.)
5) Extract the PRTUPD.INF file:
a) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
b) Select 'Programs' and select 'MS-DOS Prompt'. (The 'MS-DOS Prompt' window appears.)
c) Do one of the following:
1] If extracting from the Windows 95 CD-ROM:
a] Insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
b] Type the following at the prompt and press ENTER:
EXTRACT <drive>:\WIN95\PRECOPY2.CAB PRTUPD.INF /L C:\WINDOWS\INF
(where <drive> is the letter name of the CD-ROM drive).
NOTE: If the above command does not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
2] If extracting from the Windows 95 diskettes:
a] Insert Disk 3 into the floppy drive.
b] Type the following at the prompt and press ENTER:
EXTRACT <drive>:\PRECOPY3.CAB PRTUPD.INF /L C:\WINDOWS\INF
(where <drive> is the letter name of the floppy drive).
NOTE: If the above command does not work, the location may be incorrect. Please contact a qualified computer or next-level support.
6) Type the following at the DOS prompt and press ENTER to return to Windows 95:
EXIT
